little是个感情丰富的词，多用在口语中，带有喜欢、讨厌、怜惜等感情。例如：What a poor little boy!多可怜的小男孩啊。small用来形容某人、某物尺寸小，几乎不带感情。例如：Do you have this shirt in a smaller size?这件衬衫有小一点尺寸吗？
